Jackson, and follows police efforts to stop a Jigsaw copycat killer. It is the ninth installment in the Saw film series. The film stars Chris Rock, Max Minghella, Marisol Nichols, and Samuel L.
SAW MOVIE MOVIE
We love doing movie franchise marathons, and the Saw franchise is a great candidate for that-especially in the month of October in the weeks leading up to Halloween. Spiral (also known as Spiral: From the Book of Saw) is a 2021 American horror film directed by Darren Lynn Bousman and written by Josh Stolberg and Peter Goldfinger. The birth of Tobin Bell’s Jigsaw was truly something to behold, and it’s a legacy that carried on through many films and grossed millions of dollars (in fact, just a bit below one billion dollars). When you consider how small the budget for the first Saw was at $1.2 million, it becomes even more impressive what Wan and the rest of his crew pulled off. James Wan truly shows off his genius here, and we get our first glimpse of the gruesome brand of horror that future Saw movies will bring to the table. It’s easily in my top 10 movies of all time (not just horror films… ALL films). He wouldn’t go into further detail, but a Saw television show could potentially be an interesting new direction to take the franchise. The first Saw movie is an absolute masterpiece.
SAW MOVIE SERIES
Beyond the Saw movies: Lionsgate TV is considering a Saw television seriesĪnd just like fans, Bousman learns most of the details regarding the franchise at the same time we do.Ī Deadline article from April revealed that Lionsgate TV was possibly in early talks to create a TV series adaptation of the book of Saw, from Mark Burg and Oren Koules’ Twisted Television.Ĭhairman Kevin Beggs said, “We’re always exploring what we can do in television with something like the Saw franchise, so that’s a conversation.” Saw 10 is in development, and while that could change at a moment’s notice, it seems like Lionsgate is prepared to continue developing the franchise. We don’t have any details beyond that yet, so it’s hard to say whether the new movie would continue from the original franchise or tie in the Spiral story (and new Jigsaw). In April, Bloody Disgusting confirmed that Saw 10, or Saw X as it would probably be titled, was in active development. But, if there was a new fresh way to do something, then yes. If it’s just trying to make a carbon copy and do the same thing, I don’t know if I would. I think as long as there is a creative and ingenious way to subvert expectations and do something different, then I would come back. I don’t think we’re done seeing Hoffman, or any of these other characters that people have come to love. I don’t think we’re done seeing Tobin Bell. The way that we’re setting this up at this point is multiple stories being told simultaneously. There absolutely could still be a Saw 9, and a Spiral 2, and a TV series. But here’s what I think is cool about the Saw franchise, and specifically after Spiral.

There might be another Spiral movie in me yet. The franchise is a quite big one, and definitely has a devoted following. Movie Web actually just released a new interview with repeat franchise director Darren Lynn Bousman who discussed potentially creating a Spiral sequel: Seeing a Saw movie in theaters used to be an annual tradition for horror fans. Whether that’s through more Saw movies spawning from the original franchise or with Spiral follow-ups, I’m not sure yet. Saw 10 is in development, and while that could change at a moment’s notice, it seems like Lionsgate is prepared to continue developing the franchise.

I’m almost 99.9% certain there will be another Saw movie.
